THE STORY SO FAR

I am Gab, Fred’s Best Bud, and the organiser of Fred’s Party. 

 

It all began the day after I badly hurt my ankle playing AFL. It was a Sunday - a day each week where I disconnect by switching my phone off for 24 hours. My neighbours who lived in the cabin next door became aware of my state and suggested a picnic and small fire in my front yard. We talked, made art and played games. Their support and company immediately improved my mood. Later in the afternoon, a friend and his son rode past and stopped in for a marshmallow. With bubbles floating through the air, two-year-old Piper asked, “Is this a party, is this Fred’s Party?” and that's when this initiative was born.

 

Who is Fred? Fred is my cat who had just started exploring the outside world a couple of months earlier at 11 years old. The name 'Fred's Party' stuck and so did the idea... a sober, offline event that grows naturally in the community.
